Geckos of the day!

Need insurance mate?

Waiting... stinks.

Well, my gecko still hasn't done anything interesting so far. I think she is waiting for a good quiet time in our crazy house. Which probably won't happen anytime soon!

Geckos of the day!

i will be posting interesting, or funny, or cute gecko pictures daily!

Albino geckos

Albino geckos are white and commonly have red eyes. Personely, I don't really like them that much... They are kinda creepy, (shudder). But if you want one thats fine with me heres a picture of one

Telling them apart.

To tell a female from a male look at the beginning of their tail. If there are two lumps it's a male, but if there aren't any it's a female. If they are babies, wait till they mature a little.

Hunting

When a gecko hunts, they might wiggle their tail very fast as they are about to strike. They are nocternal so they will eat more at night.

Tail loss

Geckos may throw their tail off if a predetor is attacking them or someone handles a gecko waaaayy to much. There are special muscles in the geckos tail that let them throw their tails. Once discarded, the tail will wiggle, destracting the prey. And so, the gecko lives, and the predetor gets a little snack so all is well. =-] They will then grow a tail back usually in 19 weeks

...... What we talking about?

I've decieded to give you updates on my pregnant gecko so I'll be posting about her once in a while. She seems to be getting ready to lay her eggs now so I wait in great anticipation. Wish her luck! =]

Females

Females don't require as much work, costs more money because you need to buy them food more often then males. Females need to be fed often, keep them fat, and they should grow up strong. They let you handle them more, so if you want to sit around snuggling or whatever you want to do, I would suggest a female.

Raising males

Raising males is a little harder than females. They are more fisty and energetic. Females on the other hand are usally calm. Males usually don't become as fat as females either. Males sometimes need exersise. To do this just play with them. Make them run, ware them out, and then you should have a healthy gecko.

Just a heart breaking story.....

I decided to give you a little break so I will tell you about one of my geckos. I have three geckos, one male and two females. The males name is Zack and one of the females names is Ally, the other, Crocky. Anyway this story is about Crocky. When I first got my geckos five years ago, Their cage was filled with artifitial sand. In the wild geckos can eat sand if they are not getting enough nutrients. Poor little Crocky was bieng bullied by Ally so she did not get enough food. So, she decieded to eat some sand. :/ So then we noticed that she was skinny all the time. We took her to the vet and they did an X-ray of her and found that she was clogged with the artifitial sand! So they Put a tube in her mouth and........ the other...... in her....... butt.... He He... Couple days later the vet were almost done when they gave her one last dose of medicine and..... She coughed it up and......... died.... The vet quikly took one tube and gave her mout to mouth with a tube!! She then came back to life!! She is old and weak now but she is hanging in there!

sheding

Geckos like humans, shed. Just a little faster. Sheding is also called molting. If u notice your gecko's skin is a ghostly white then soke it in warm water and if you want, you can help it out a little and do most of the shedding. If not then place something rough in there cage like a rock, and they will do it them selves. But remember to check their toes because if molt stays on their toes to long then they will lose their toe nails.
